For the past 18 months any Cuban caught talking to a tourist will be put in jail for 3 days for the first offense.
A second offense will cost them 6 to 9 months in a labour camp. So! With the tightning of restrictions for all tourists I have discountinued my personal guide service to Cuba. Latin women for a wife.
I have seen on the program "60 Minutes" where men were flying to Russia to bring back wives. I have a friend who met his wife through an internet dating service in the Philippines.
Where as I know from experience the latin women are very passionate and because of the culture give more attention to their men. But they can be very child like and demanding.
Since men and women are the same all over the world, you will find good ones and bad ones.
So it is my advice that because Cuba or the Dominican Republic is a 3-4 hour flight rather than 12-16 to Russia or the Phillipines and lots cheaper, learn some spanish and come experience this "Latin" culture.

Contrasts in perceptions.
Most Cubans & Dominicans have never been off their island believe that everyone living in Canada and United States is rich. This is because of two forces, the first is the tourists they see spend money like water and second is, returning family members want to impress all their friends as to how successful they have become.
The contrasting mistake made by the tourists is not appreciating that the average worker makes less than 20 dollars per month in Cuba and 250 dollars in the DR. Cars, clothes, shoes, radios, televisions and even food costs more than in the states. The only thing that maybe cheaper is housing and that could be debated as most tourists would not be content to live in such small homes. Don't be fooled by thinking they they are poor though, they are educated with better medical services than most of the Americas. If you want to compare quality of lifestyle, they live in countries that most tourists work all year just to spend two weeks holidays.
